Beauty Buys

Monthly Beauty Buys | February 2016

Because my makeup addiction seems to have been spiraling out of control lately, I decided that I really should start keeping track of my monthly beauty purchases. Since I’ll be doing that anyway, I thought I might as well make it a regular blog post. This way I’ll really be able to track what/how much I’m buying and also make sure to use my new purchases instead of letting them disappear into my bigger collection.

Due to the Target Beauty Boxes I had purchased in January, I had a couple of coupons for $3 off a $15 beauty purchase. I shared one with a friend and off we went. This is what I bought:

Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow in Inked in Pink

I had heard so much about Maybelline’s Color Tattoos that I felt this was the perfect opportunity to pick one up. I chose Inked in Pink because I had seen a post about it recently and I really can’t resist anything even slightly rose gold. So far, I really like it, though it’s definitely not as pigmented as I expected.

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color in Clay Crush

This is the most gorgeous terracotta neutral. I simply love this line and wish I owned every shade.

NYX Butter Gloss in Crème Brulee

Although I’m not a huge fan of gloss, I simply had to purchase this cult favorite. It’s the first Butter Gloss that I own and it really was a challenge choosing between this shade and Angel Food Cake. I’ve heard that these are surprisingly opaque but it seems Crème Brulee just wants to fade into the color of my lips. I should’ve gone with Angel Food Cake.

L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation in W3

You can really see how much bloggers really influence the purchases I make! This purchase is no exception. People are really loving the Lumi Cushion Foundation. I thought I would too, but imo it’s just what I would consider decent. I’m not really getting the coverage I want and the luminosity it offers didn’t impress me as much as I thought it would. I could only figure that it’s because I usually sport a dewy look anyway. I’ve got to say, though, that I do love the compact and convenient packaging, did I mention that it’s rose gold? Also, has anyone figured out how to clean the pad it comes with? I dropped mine face down on my bathroom floor and I’m nervous about washing it. 😥

The following are the online purchases I made because of deals on each brand’s respective websites.

benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit and My Two Cents

It was really the packaging that sold me on these. I love the cardboard box these arrive in, and the pretty glass container reminiscent of vintage cosmetics. The colors are also fantastic themselves, but it’s the attention they are wrapped in that I really enjoy. I love pretty things!

e.l.f. Matte Lip Color in Tea Rose

I have been waiting for e.l.f. to offer free shipping for ages just so that I could order this color!!! I haven’t been able to find it in stores. I would consider it a grey-toned pink. It’s a lot darker on me than I expected, but I’m really liking it.

e.l.f. Eyeshadow “C” Brush

The e.l.f. website lists this as a bestseller so I thought I would give it a shot. The bristles are dense and I found mine to be slightly scratchy.

e.l.f. Small Tapered Brush

I have seriously been looking for a small brush to set my under eye with and I think I found it! This brush is so perfect. It’s soft, perfectly tapered, and soooo affordable! I think I might need several of these!!

I also bought a Luxie offer from Ipsy. I’ve been in the market for eyeshadow brushes and as soon as I saw the email about this offer, I knew it was meant to be. The baby pink handles and the rose gold ferrules had me sold. SONY DSC

The set included five brushes: a 207 Medium Angled Shading brush, a 215 Small Angle brush, a 221 Flat Definer brush, a 231 Small Tapered Blending brush (identical to the one I received in my Ipsy), and a 235 Blending brush.

I also made a Makeup Geek purchase in February, but I decided to make a separate post about that.

So there you have it! My February beauty buys. I’m actually pretty proud of myself for showing some restraint this month. Hopefully, I can do even better in March and only buy things I absolutely “need.”

What new purchases did you make in February?
